Dr. Katrina Christiansen, Intelligent Malt

Katrina Christiansen received a Ph.D. degree in agricultural engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, IA, in 2011.  Katrina collaborated with the software team to develop the software running the Intelligent Malt equipment along with the design of the equipment. She worked for Cargill Malt as the pilot project lead in Spiritwood, ND, that same year, supervising the innovation efforts in both the pilot malting and brewing facilities and producing two malt process patents. She previously worked as a plant engineer for Abengoa Bioenergy. And way back, she completed her B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in biosystems engineering.

 Adam Paul, Integrated Process Engineers & Constructors, Inc.

Adam is a Sales Engineer at Integrated Process Engineers & Constructors, Inc. in Fort Atkinson WI.  IPEC specializes in custom modular process equipment for biotech, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, biofuel, and other industries.  He has been involved with the research, development, and engineering of IPEC’s Craft Malting systems since 2013. He holds Bachelor’s & Master’s degrees in Biological Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has experience in mechanical, electrical, civil & hydrogeological engineering.  Adam enjoys helping craft maltsters achieve their goals, and especially sampling the beverages in which their products are used.

Matt Drew, Bently Ranch & Bently Heritage Estate Distillery

Matt Drew is the Maltster for Bently Ranch and Bently Heritage Estate Distillery in Minden, NV. He holds an undergraduate degree from Washington State University and has attended the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He’s also a Member of the Craft Maltster’s Guild and the American Malting Barley Association. His certifications include a WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits, and a Cicerone Certified Beer Server.
