The Craft Maltsters Guild is thrilled to announce that registration is now open for the 2025 Malt Cup — our 8th annual celebration of excellence in craft malting! This international malt quality competition is the only of its kind, and we encourage maltsters from across the globe to enter.
Exciting New Categories for 2025
This year, the competition expands to include eight categories, featuring two new additions: Unique Malt and Distillers Malt.
Unique Malt is for those standout malts that embody the spirit of craft malting and don’t fit into traditional categories. Whether it’s gluten-free, alternative, adjunct malted grains, or niche styles, this category is all about celebrating innovation.
Distillers Malt brings together high-modified malts with ultra-high enzymatic potential, commonly used in grain distilling, and moderately modified malts designed to enhance flavors in single malt whiskey production. Entries will be judged on their distinct qualities, considering the specific type and intended use.
Returning Categories
The rest of the 2025 Malt Cup categories include Caramel Malt, Light Munich, Pilsen, Pale Malt, Vienna, and Wheat Malt. As in previous years, participants will receive in-depth feedback on their malts and have the chance to earn recognition, beautifully handcrafted medals, and the coveted Best of Show Malt Cup—a traveling trophy awarded annually to the best overall malt entry.
