Craft Malt Month Recap: A Celebration of Flavor, Craftsmanship, and Community

In September 2024, the Craft Maltsters Guild enacted the first ever Craft Malt Month. The now annual September event brought together beer lovers, spirits enthusiasts, and craft malt advocates for 30 days of all things craft malt. The event, held in partnership with breweries, distilleries, and industry professionals, was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the creativity and craftsmanship that craft malt brings to the world of brewing and distilling.

In addition to many tastings and collaboration beers, Craft Malt Month also featured the release of a Copperworks Distilling American Single Malt whiskey aged for eight years and three months from Alba barely grown in 2015 in Burlington, WA.

The event wasn’t just about the end products, though. Craft Malt Month also included educational opportunities led by experts in brewing, distilling, malting, and farming that provided deeper insight into the science behind malt, the nuances of flavor development, and the role of sustainability in the craft industry.

I want to thank every malthouse, brewery and distillery who elevated Craft Malt Month and help set up what will be an even more impactful program come September 2025. The Collaboration Fundraiser program was a big hit with over a dozen collaboration beers brewed and proceeds from limited edition spirits to help support the guild. If you are still adding up the results from one of your fundraisers, please reach out and let us know how they went.

We also want to send a special shout out to Colorado based Moxie Sozo Advertising and Branding for their support in developing the Craft Malt Month Brand look and feel. Think of these fine folks for any of your branding or packaging needs.

An Emphasis On Education

Our quarterly webinar series continues to bring great content. In October, we hosted our friends at AMBA and CMBTC to present  “Insights from the 2024 U.S. and Canada Barley Crop”. This webinar saw our highest attendance of the year. If you missed it, you can watch the recording on the Members Only section of the website.

We have hundreds of presentations, webinars and educational content posted there for your access to want, just one of the key benefits that comes with your membership at the Craft Maltsters Guild.

Cheers!
