Join Northern Crops Institute (NCI) for an in-person course on Barley and Malt Quality: A Field to Brewhouse Perspective. This course will provide information to participants who are looking for hands-on experience in techniques used in barley breeding, utilizing barley and malt quality testing equipment, and grain marketing.

Participants of this course will learn from a group of internationally recognized experts, who will give an overview of the factors impacting barley and malt quality from field to brewhouse. Lectures, discussion sessions, participatory laboratory demonstrations, and tours will provide participants with the knowledge to understand malt processing and to effectively interpret barley and malt analyses.

Why Should You Register?

Barley has been an important part of North Dakota’s agriculture, and the state has ranked as a top-three producer of barley since the 1930s. Today, NDSU has numerous faculty and staff members who work full-to-part time on diverse areas of barley research and extension. This course is an excellent opportunity to learn from internationally recognized experts from industry, academics, and government. This short 3.5-day course will provide an intensive overview of all things Barley and Malt. Attendees will leave the course having enhanced their malt and brewing knowledge.

Barley and malt quality will be beneficial to barley and malt growers, processors, and craft brewers. This course will be especially intriguing to those interested in enhancing their malt and brewing knowledge. This course is for those that have an interest in learning and gaining great hands-on experience when it comes to barley and malt quality. Taking live tours and viewing demonstrations will help to amplify any participant’s knowledge.

How Do I Register?

Barley and Malting Quality: A Field to Brewhouse Perspective will be an in-person course. We encourage you to enroll early through our website. For your course fee, you will receive access to course materials, transportation during the course, and some meals. Other meals are on your own. Travel expenses and hotel are also the responsibility of the participants. Course enrollment is limited to 25 individuals.
