Invisible Hazards of a Malthouse
July 25 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Free – $20As many of us in the malting industry may have experienced, we are not always the most visible part of the final product. Typically, when a customer is enjoying a pint in their favorite taproom, the first thing that catches their eye is the shiny tanks and sophisticated control systems that the brewing team has mastered. In the same way that there is more than meets the eye when crafting a delightful foamy beverage, there’s hidden aspects of malthouse safety that might not always be obvious. In this presentation, we will focus on combustible dust, confined spaces, control of stored energy, as well as ergonomics and slips, trips, and falls. Through case studies, OSHA fine records and incident statistics we will explore challenges that our industry has seen in the past and lessons learned on how to keep our team safe. Lastly, we will discuss where we might find these hazards, things to look out for, and when to consult a subject matter expert.
By the end of this presentation, participants will have gained new insight in areas where low frequency, high impact incidents occur and have a better understanding of the resources available to tackle these unique challenges.
