The Craft Maltsters Guild seeks nominees for the 2023 Soles of Malt Award. Given annually over the past six years, the award was created in memory of William Soles and stands for selfless and philanthropic stewardship of craft malt.

“For years now the Guild has taken a moment to honor and recognize members of our community who have been altruistic and impactful,” notes award founder, Twila Soles. “It is our tradition to acknowledge those who continue to lead us in this manner. It is truly a gift to share in this collective expression of gratitude.”

Nominations for the award will be accepted until January 31 and can be submitted online. The recipient will be chosen by a committee led by Guild co-founder and award creator, Twila Soles of Grouse Malt House. Past award recipients, Andrea Stanley of Valley Malt, Dave Thomas of Dostal Alley Brewpub, and Ryan Hamilton of Michigan State University,  as well as Guild board secretary, Curtis Davenport of Admiral Maltings, will also serve on the selection committee.

The 2023 recipient will be announced during the Malt Cup Awards Ceremony on Friday, March 17 during the Craft Malt Conference in Portland, Maine. Along with the honorary Soles of Malt shovel, the recipient will receive a $500 monetary award meant to provide an experience for learning and collaboration. The scholarship funding must be applied toward connecting and collaborating for the betterment of the recipient’s soul and craft malt.
